preparing for transition into retirement

Spring is here, the weather is warming, and everything around seems to be blossoming and growing into what’s to come. For those entering into retirement, it is important to continue to plan for and embrace the new experiences to come.

Whether thinking about your finances, your newfound free time, or about all the items on your checklist to cover, retirement is just like any other big change in life as there is a period of transition and adjustment. The more you know beforehand, the better prepared you will be to handle common phases of your golden years such as:

  1. Vacation: This is the phase everyone envisions when they think of an ideal retirement: endless golf and breakfast mimosas, playing with grandkids, sitting on the beach, or doing whatever it is that you love to do.
  2. Feeling Lost: For all your newfound freedoms, there can also be feelings of a loss of routine, identity, personal or working relationships, and of purpose. Just as with every other hurdle in life, it is important to realize this, face it, and find your own way to persevere.
  3. Trial and Error: This phase is about trying new things, finding ways to contribute to society again, and seeing what society will want from you. Some things may work, some may not. Embrace the new experiences either way.
  4. Reinvest and Rewire: In the final phase, you can discover something that is meaningful to you and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Many retirees find that the new experiences and friendships surpass the goals they may have dreamt of during their working years.

Every great journey needs a good guide, and we want to be that for you. Contact us and learn more about what to expect from both your finances and lifestyle in retirement.
